Jousting knight from an old clock

Posted in: Crazy contraptions

Do you have a clock made from a vinyl record lying around? Preferably with a picture of Nelson Mandela on it (in the style of Andy Warhol). You don’t? That’s a pity, because if you did, you too could make one these!

Watch the video above, it explains everything (well, sort of). The challenge was to film something for one minute, with no editing and no camera movement. I thought why not just film a clock. Then I thought… what if I stick a jousting knight on the second hand and have him knock over numbers with his lance!

I hope you enjoy it – if you don’t, I wasted 3 hours of my life!

Portrait on a magnetic scribbler

Posted in: Dippy doodles

A portrait of a baby's face drawn on a magnetic scribbler

I’m no stranger to the magnetic scribbler. I’d even go as far to say I’m a dab hand – especially at farmyard scenes, you know, cotton-wool sheep, ducks, cows… occasionally pigs. However, I’d never really tried drawing ‘proper’ picture until this portrait of my son Joshua. It wasn’t done from life, he’d never sit still long enough! I used a photo that I found stuck on the fridge.

I think I captured his likeness, all be it very crudely. I could have done better if my kids hadn’t turned the surface of the scribbler into braille by hammering it with the stylus.

Two cling ons

Posted in: Dippy doodles

Two characters drawn clinging onto a toilet roll using a blue biro

Let’s not beat about the bush. I was going for the ‘cling on’ pun from the outset. Never heard of a cling on? Then try looking it up in the Urban Dictionary. On second thoughts don’t. You’ll be better off without the mental image. Instead, just imagine it’s about these two sweet little characters ‘clinging on’ to a loo roll for dear life.

But why draw on a loo roll at all? Well, I was sitting in my car. I was bored. A loo roll was the only availble source of paper. I guess you really could call this disposable art!
